Kids Holiday Visit 2008 January 28, 2009

This was our 1st Christmas in Denver and Tom’s 1st one away from family, so when we heard that his mom was coming to visit with his niece, Halli, and nephew, Blake, we were EXCITED! It was a short trip , but full of fun! When they got here, we learned that the kids didn’t really understand that we had really moved away, it broke my heart, but when Halli asked  what happened to my red hair I couldn’t help but laugh! Kids really do say the best things!!! ( Tom and I still quote one of the many things Halli said while on their visit…. ” YOU JUST DONT GET IT” hahah, where do they learn these things?)

While here, we went on a LONG walk around the city in the freezing cold! Found snow, took pics at the Millennium Bridge, went to REI, The Children’s Museum, went out to eat, and played in both our apartment and the one they were staying in, in our building. Enjoy just a few shots…

“Paw” Hana September 17, 2008

 

Last Wednesday, we attended Three Dog Bakery’s Hawaiian Party. It was called “Paw” Hana. It is a play off of Pau Hana which means to hang out with friends after work. They held a best dressed dog and owner contest…. 

We saw this as a perfect opportunity to have Bandit wear his hawaiian shirt we got him in Maui on our vacation, Tom wore one of his hawaiian shirts,  I was the only one with out one. Thankfully we had a Hawaiian event at my store recently and saved all of the grass skirts and leis.  ”We were in it to win it!”

As we were leaving the house Tom asked, What if there is some other crazy couple there all dressed up? I told him we were that couple. haha

When we arrived, they had a great set up. There were a lot of dogs with leis, they all looked really cute. Bandit really enjoyed playing with the other dogs and eating all the the treats they had. 

Towards the end, Rocky, the owner gained everyone’s attention to announce the winner of the dress up contest…. The winner was Bandit! He did a wonderful job accepting his Bag of Treats. ( When his name was called, he did a great job of walking right up to Rocky) Having his picture taken was another story…

I work right around the corner, so Tom and I took Bandit to my store to visit all the people I work with. Bandit loves going in and getting all the attention. 

On the drive home, Bandit wanted to hang out of the window. (He typically doesnt do that.) I think he was showing off.

Bandit @LB Dog Beach September 6, 2008

 

 

This was my weekend off and also the weekend for Tom and I to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. We were going to take a mini trip to the LA County Fair. I have been wanting to go for years and have not been able to do so yet.We are in love with a place in Santa Monica called Healthy Spot. Its a store for dogs that has everything, even doggy day care.  The plan was to take Bandit early for about 4 hours. I called to ask some questions and found out…. no doggy day care for 6 weeks. 

So, we had to make some changes to our plans… Off to Long Beach’s Dog Beach. We picked up our friend Dan and headed out. It was awesome! Tons of dogs running around. Bandit wanted to be off leash so badly. (He still has to learn “Come” before we will try that. We played for a while and decided to grab a bit to eat. We found a place not too far from the Queen Mary( It was my first time seeing it. WOW what a huge boat!) We sat outside so we could have Bandit with us. He had to sit on the other side of the fence, for heath codes. He did ok for a while, but was getting tired and wanted to be closer to us.

Bandit’s day with Gram and Papa August 24, 2008

 

Today was quite the day. Before our trip to Tom’s grandparents house we stopped by the Vets office. We’ve had Bandit for two weeks and wanted to bring him to the Vet to make sure he’s got a clean bill of health. We also had a few questions.

Tom and I hoped that Bandit would behave well in the waiting room, but we couldn’t have been more pleased with what a good job be did waiting. There were a few other dogs that weren’t too pleased to be there and were showing it. Bandit sat calmly on the floor in sit position between Tom’s feet the whole time. And when I say the whole time, keep in mind we waited for over an hour. Once we got into the room he was a little bit nervous. The Vet was great she answered a lot of questions we had. 

Off to Gram and Papa’s…. We were leaving LA a lot later than we had intended.( On the way, Bandit called his Aunt Clover to wish her a Happy Birthday!) When we arrived at Tom’s grandparents, Bandit was ready to be out of the car. He was super excited to see them both. It was thier first meeting. 

Bandit loved how he could explore around their house. Gram let Bandit play with a toy Ram and Mouse and he loved it! A bit later we all headed over to Tom’s mom’s house and had dinner.

Bandit’s 1st Frenchie Meet-Up August 23, 2008

As many of you know, Tom and I joined a meet-up group for French Bulldogs after we decided we wanted to get one, after lots of research of the breed. We thought it would be a great way to learn about the breed in “real life”, not just books, and the perfect way to get breeder recommendations. After a few months of us attending, sans frenchie… we were finally able to go with our little Bandito….

 

 

At first we were a bit nervous to let him off leash, because the park isn’t fenced in, however, we know that all the little frenchies do a great job of staying together. After we let him off leash, he didn’t want to leave our sides or the picnic tables. As he became more comfortable with the area, he started to go up to some of the other dogs. He would get close enough to see what was going on, but not get too involved. 

There was a little terrier there that would run around everywhere and Bandit and the other frenchies would chase him. It reminded me of the dog races and how they follow that little rabbit (‘ only seen it on t.v.)

Bandit became so at ease that he would go up to people and roll around on there picnic blankets. He was a huge hit.

Day Around Town August 17, 2008

Today we went on quite the adventure. It started off by heading to the bank. We popped in to say HI to some friends of Tom. Bandit acted like a well behaved dog. At one point a lady asked us if we had his ears “done.” Meaning, did we pay for plastic surgery for his ears to stand up the way that they do. Tom and I both laughed and he even agreed…. “Only in LA”  would you hear a question like that. 

We had been nervous about him getting sick on car rides. Turns out, its one of his favorite things! At first he would try to get to us through the arm rest but now he understands hes not allowed in the front. Sometimes he will try to look out of the windows to see what’s going on. He often just likes to lay down.

After the bank we headed down to 3rd St to grab breakfast. After finding parking we stopped into “Three Dog Bakery, A Bakery for Dogs” ( In my head I sound like the guy who yells that out on 3rd St) Our friend Callie, from our French Bulldog group works there. We wanted to see if her frenchie, Violet was there….

No Violet, but someone made out like a “bandit” with treats and toys. We love it there! We went to get breakfast for the first time with Bandit and he did a pretty good job. We sat next to a peep hole in the wall so he was distracted quite a bit.

We wrapped the day up with some relaxing time on the deck. One of our favorite things!

Wes’ Visit August 15, 2008

Wes came over tonight to help Tom and I set up this great blog for Bandit. He has one for his son Walker that is too cute! We wanted one for Bandit too so we may share our many adventures with him with all of our friends and family. We have had Bandit for just a few days and we learn something new almost every moment.. Up until tonight Bandit has been very calm and relaxed. Tom and had thought maybe he isn’t as “playful” as most frenchies….

Well, right before Wes got here, Tom was teaching Bandit to “play chew” on his arm…

Our plan was to eat dinner and then Tom and Wes could exchange their music archives with each other and then Wes would help teach us how to set up a blog for Bandit. 

Bandit saw Wes’ visit as an opportunity to let some of his WILD side out. He ran circles around the couch, he would run in and out from the deck over and over, and when he wanted to “play chew” on Tom’s arm some more, it became “less cute” to Tom. (I tried to tell him earlier…) It was Bandit’s 1st time having company over and I think he just wanted to “show off” a bit.

On the Deck August 14, 2008

Today Bandit joined us on the deck with out running down the stairs into the yard (where he likes to eat the figs). But it seem like he can find something to eat no matter where he is.

Bandit’s 2nd day August 11, 2008

Its Bandit’s second day home, thankfully I was off today and had all day to spend with him. I am starting to learn some of his cute little habits. I tried to spend some time on the computer and every time I sat at the desk, Bandit had to be at my feet, under the desk. It was truly adorable. Later, when Tom got home, all he wanted to do was sit on my lap and check out what was on the computer.

Tom and I decided early on that we wanted to crate train Bandit. We want him to have a place where he       feels comfortable. It is early on but he has been doing really well! He enjoys taking naps in his “BED” and also playing with his toys too. We are starting to notice Bandit can fall asleep with his head in almost any position.

Bandit loves to roll around on his back, once he gets pooped out he stays on his back and makes what we are starting to call “Dragon Face.” You tell us what you think. LOL

After many months of looking for our little frenchie, we were blessed by a phone call on Sunday 8.10.08. A friend let us know of a frenchie that needed a good home, he had been in the West LA Shelter. We headed over right away to meet our possible future frog. All worked out and he came home that night. We had been prepping for a while but still needed a few things. At least we had our crate. Bandit has been opening up to us more everyday. Each day is better than the last. Here are some pics from our first night. Stay tuned for many more.
